Yea, thanks for the tip on the strings Dub Martin. Just found out I'm going to play for the folks up at our community center tonight so I'll be able to break them in good and see how I like them next to one of those darned banjo players.

I now have about 12 hours of hard playing time on the new Sam Bush Monels. They still sound just as good at 12 hours as they did at 4 hours. These are hot/humid summer hours playing mostly outside (sweat & grime). I just keep wiping them down when done playing and they just keep sounding good. If they can hang on for 18 to 20 hours (summer play time) I think they will be my string of choice on the 815V. Lead breaks stand out very well and I often chop a G chord with the G string open on the more driving pieces (good sound with these monels). I may throw a set on my practice mando just to see how they fare, actually I think I'll give them a try on my other two Eastmans as well.

Well they are now done in at aprroximately 18 hard sweaty hours. The treble strings have deadened and my pick seems to hang on them. I consider that pretty good for non coated strings though, I just replaced them with a new set. I have also ordered some new strings to try on different mandos. I heard that "Black Diamond" has made improvement and are not the strings of old so I'll be trying them in coated and uncoated. I also ordered some "Martin Bluegrass" strings for the upcoming cooler months. I used to use these and loved the sound but could never seem to get much durabilty through the sweaty months.

Anybody here using the Black Diamonds???

Hi tomthebabtist
Actually I do enjoy experimenting around, changing strings and doing set up work as needed on my mandolins and guitars. Some day I hope to find "just the right fit" in string choices for all of my instruments. The down side is that all this experimentation can get a little expensive so I just try to wear em out before moving on to the next.

and as soon as you find the perfect set, they'll quit making them.
