Minnesota winters are long and mostly bluegrass-free, unfortunately.

Some of us still drop by and comment, but not too many. It'll pick up as the weather gets warmer.

Welcome, traverler. Why not post on Introductions and tell us something about yourself. I'm guessing you play mandolin.

Yeah, we use this forum... sometimes quite a bit. There is a lot of good information here and a lot of folks lurk about just to see if anyone needs questions answered.

Stick around, I think you'll like it here.

Hi traverler!

I feel the same way -- hopefully the 'spring thaw' will soon take place! :)

(In the meantime, what is it that drew you to this forum? Do you have something you'd like to say? We'd like to hear it!). 8)

Hey ya'll
I've been out of contact for a while but found an internet cafe...

Yes, the forum isn't the highest message count in the world but it also doesn't have a bunch of nasty posts to search through. It's a trade off I'm willing to accept. I was wondering what the forum consensus would be about putting some google ads on the right side of the forums. It would help raise visibility of the forum [I've noticed google rates it's ads on pages rather highly] and might help draw other quality posters.

Any complaints about adding advertising to the site [question mark, dang this odd keyboard] :o No flash or banners, just text ads with a bluegrass or music related theme.

You have been busy Mark, and it begs the question: With Monroe Crossing moving from a Minnesota market to a national market, will the Bluegrass Forum remain 'local'?
I can see it working both ways -- several 'national' bands have forum pages. Adding the google adds (to attract 'quality' posters) is a move towards a larger forum audience. (It would, of course, also encourage Minnesota posters).
Personally, I would like the forum here to have a Minesota bias, but I would also like to see the forum be more than a "Hi, I've joined the forum" kind of site -- I'd like to see postings with a little more substance... :?

Maybe Mark's dream is to be "THE" Bluegrass discussion forum of the world!
That could be a good thing.
To accommodate that, Mark would create regional/state threads.

I've added ads to the website. Comments?

Also I've looked around the various bluegrass forums and none seem to get a lot of traffic. I've never really though about being "THE" bluegrass forum but it wouldn't be hard to add regional groupings and try expanding the site to a more national presence. I wonder if many bluegrass people spend much time on-line?

Just thinking out loud.

Banjo people tend to hang out at the Banjo Hangout (oddly enough), and Mando people gather at the Mandolin Cafe. That leaves this site for fiddlers and bassists, and we rarely have anything to say to each other so.... 8)

Making matters worse, there is now, also, a Fiddle Hangout. Soon this could be a forum for bassists only!

Should we change the name to "Bass Forum, where we're talking about pizzacato??" :?
